How much does a website cost in St Martin or St Barts: the real prices
Subscriptions, opaque quotes, fixed price packs. What a website really costs on our islands, what moves the bill, and the grant that can cut it in half.
It is the question everyone asks and almost nobody dares to answer in public: how much does a website cost here? The honest answer fits in one sentence: anywhere from a few hundred euros per year forever, to a few thousand euros once. It all depends on the model you choose — and the model matters more than the number.
The three models you will find on our islands
The subscription website. A modest setup fee, often between €300 and €600, then a monthly payment of €60 to €200 for as long as the site exists. It is the most common local model, and the most comfortable at first glance: the entry price is low. But run the arithmetic over three years: a €199/month plan is €2,388 a year, more than €7,000 over three years, for a website you do not own. The day you stop paying, the site disappears.
The opaque quote. Many agencies, here as everywhere, publish no prices at all: you call, you meet, you wait for a proposal. That is not a flaw in itself — a complex project deserves a custom quote. But for a showcase or restaurant website, the total absence of a public benchmark makes comparison impossible and adds weeks to every project.
The published fixed price. One amount, known before the first meeting, paid once. That is our model: five packs from €1,890 to €6,990, delivered in 7 to 18 days, 50% on signature, 50% at launch, and the code is yours on launch day. No monthly fee: hosting a modern static site costs a few euros a month, which you pay directly.
What actually moves the bill
Whoever you hire, four dials explain most of any price.
The number of pages and content first: a five page showcase and a villa site with twenty property pages are not the same amount of writing and structure. Languages next: on our islands a serious website is bilingual, and real bilingualism is written natively in each language, never translated word for word; it is extra work and worth its price, as we detailed in what your American clients actually type. Selling features too: direct booking, payments in euros and dollars, or a calendar synced with your rental channels cost more than a presentation page, and earn more. Photos finally: the photo shoot is not a luxury, it is what sells, and it sometimes adds to the quote.
Watch out, on the other hand, for two lines that inflate invoices without adding anything: monthly “maintenance” billed on a site that needs none, and a €60 template resold as custom work.
In St Martin, the bill can be cut in half
Here is the part almost nobody mentions: the Collectivité de Saint-Martin subsidizes productive investment by island businesses, digital included, covering 30 to 50% of eligible expenses from €3,000 of investment. A €3,490 website can come down to less than €1,800 left to pay, subject to your file's eligibility. The conditions, the application portal and a worked example are on our page about funding your website with the BOOST and FEDER schemes — and we prepare the project documents with you, free of charge.
The only fair way to compare
Never compare two entry prices: compare two total costs over three years, ownership included. Ask every provider three questions: what is left if I stop paying? Does the price cover both languages? And who owns the code at the end? The answers tell you everything about the model, and the model tells you everything about the relationship ahead.
