The right website for a car rental company in St Martin

Your customers book their car before they land, from their sofa. The four things they look for first, and the booking flow that turns a visit into a confirmed rental.

A couple in Boston has flights for February. It is November, it is snowing, and they are settling the trip on a Sunday evening from their living room: the place to stay first, then the car. That second purchase happens three months before landing, 2,000 miles from your counter, on a phone, usually without ever speaking to you.

That is what makes this business different here. On both our islands a car is not a comfort, it is the condition for leaving your hotel at all. The demand exists, it is large, and it is settled entirely online. Your website is not a brochure: it is your front desk, open while you sleep.

The four things people look for first

Watch a visitor land on your page. They are looking for four things, in this order, and they leave if three of them are missing.

The daily rate, all in. Not a teaser price followed by six lines of extras: the number they will actually pay, insurance included, with anything still optional stated plainly.

The deposit and how it is taken. This is the number one worry for an overseas customer, and the one that closes the tab in silence. An 800 dollar hold on a credit card is not a problem when it is announced upfront; it becomes one when it is discovered at the counter.

Delivery. Juliana airport, Grand-Case, the Marigot ferry, the hotel? With what notice, at what cost, and what happens when the flight is three hours late, which happens every day.

Licence and age rules. Is a US or Canadian licence enough? From what age, and with what surcharge? One sentence per question, high on the page, not buried in a terms-and-conditions PDF.

A form that asks for dates before anything else

The instinct on rental websites is the generic contact form: name, email, message. The customer has to compose something. Most of them never do.

What works is two date fields and a vehicle choice visible in the first screen, and only then a name and a way to call back. A booking that starts with "12 to 19 February" has already started, and the rest gets filled in out of habit. Put a tappable WhatsApp number next to it: on these islands it is the channel that gets the fastest answers, and a visitor hesitating between two models asks in ten seconds instead of leaving to look elsewhere.

One expensive detail, and we see it on nearly every audit: the booking request that lands in a mailbox nobody checks, or that the spam filter swallows. We covered why a contact form quietly loses enquiries in a separate article. In this business, one lost enquiry is one lost week of rental.

The margin the comparison sites take

You are probably already listed on one or two comparison platforms, and they bring volume. That is a channel, not a foundation: the day their commission rises or their ranking shifts, your season shifts with it.

The reasoning is the same as for accommodation, and it fits in one sentence: a customer who finds you directly costs you the price of a page. We laid it out for hotels and villas in direct booking versus the platforms, and it transfers here unchanged. Your advantage over a comparison site is easy to use: you know the island, it does not. Where to park in Grand-Case at night, which road to take to Orient Bay, whether the car can make it up to Pic Paradis — that is content no platform will ever write for you, and it is exactly what search engines go looking for.

English first, and fast

A large share of your customers come from the United States, Canada and the Dutch side. A French-only website loses them before price is ever discussed: they need a real English version, written as English, not an automatic translation widget.

It also has to load fast from North America, where your buyers are when they decide. Beyond three seconds of waiting, 53% of mobile visitors give up, according to Google's study. The sites we ship are static and replicated, and load in under two seconds, from Miami as well as from the lagoon. Our website pricing, lead times included, is public: you can see what it costs to replace a site that loses you one booking out of two.

What gets measured

We promise nobody a top spot for "car rental St Martin". Three numbers can be recorded today and compared in February: enquiries received directly through your site, the share of your bookings that goes through no platform at all, and your mobile PageSpeed score. Measured, not promised.
